Piezo actuators are actuators that use a piezoelectric element that expands and contracts when voltage is applied to it. Piezo actuators differ from other actuators in that they have a short travel distance and high torque. For this reason, piezo actuators are used in devices that require precise positioning.

There are two types of piezo actuators: straight and stage-type, and those with or without a built-in displacement sensor (strain gauge). Piezo actuators with built-in strain gauges can be controlled more accurately by feedback control. High voltage is used because the higher the voltage applied to the piezo element, the larger the deformation. However, it does not require a large amount of power because current hardly flows through it.
